Signing Times

Today we had a special guest at our school’s Friday assembly. A mommy named Rachel Coleman came to teach us American Sign Language. Mrs. Coleman has a daughter named Leah, who is deaf. Mrs. Coleman taught Leah sign language when Leah was a baby. Then Mrs. Coleman thought it would be very nice if other children learned sign language to talk to each other. She was hoping that Leah would be able to talk to other kids on the playground if they knew a little sign language. She has a show on PBS called Signing Time.
She said babies can sign before they can talk. So little babies can “tell” their mommies and daddies what they want even before they can talk. That is so neat. We sang and learned a lot of new signs. Mommy ordered me a DVD of Mrs. Coleman’s Signing Time. I can’t wait to learn some more signs.
