What are tadpoles?

Young frogs are called tadpoles or polliwogs. A tadpole looks more like a fish than a frog. It has a tail and gills for breathing under the water. As the tadpole develops, it grows hind legs and then front legs. Finally, the tail disappears and the frog hops up out of the water as an adult.
